Construction and Layout: Fiberglass composite construction, Airex foam core and fiber glass above waterline. Solid fiber glass below the waterline. Carbon fiber used extensively to strengthen high load areas. This is a stiff boat! Five bulkheads per hull.
No balsa core anywhere in the hull. No Lagoon style failing bulkheads on this boat.
Auxiliary Power: Two 18 horse power fresh water cooled diesel engines. These are well maintained 2002 Volvo Penta engines. They are simple engines that run great and are easy to fix. Minimum electronics! Each engine has been thoroughly overhauled. Engine hours at about 1,000 since last over haul.
Parts seem to be less of a problem today than 10 years ago. You won't find most parts through your local Volvo Penta dealer. Dealers tend to replace these simple robust engines with high tech engines that keep you tied to V/P services centers. Regular servicing, some mechanical ability, and preventing overheating will keep these engines running for years. Two of good parts suppliers are:

Fuel Consumption: 2 liters per hour at 2000 RPM. Run only one engine to improve consumption or to give a speed boost in light wind conditions under sail. To stretch fuel supply crossing oceans we would limit RPM to 1500 - 1800.
Fuel capacity: 240 liters (53 gallons) plus 20 liter (5 gallon) jerry jugs.
Speed on Auxiliaries: Maximum 8-9 knots. ~6 knots at 2,000 RPM - (flat water, clean bottom and no contrary wind!) Subtract .5 knots of boat speed for every 5 knots of contrary breeze.
Speed Under Sail: On a close reach in a stiff breeze Mustang Sally has hit speeds in the mid to high teens. Average cruising speeds under sail are often less than half that.
Range: 480 miles primary, 1,000 miles with ten additional five gallon jerry jugs
